CHATEAU de MONTBRUN

To reach the Château de Montbrun, just go towards Dournazac by the D64 secondary road. Aymerie Brun, a crusader, built the castle in order to accommodate his garrison. It was a 40 metres long quadrilateral with a squared tower in each angle. In the sixteenth century, it was ransacked by English troops that set fire to it. It was reconstructed by Pierre de Montbrun, Bishop of Limoges, who erected 3 round towers. The Grand Jacques, a 40-metres high donjon, is the only part of the castle that fire did not damage. The General de Gaulle, friend of the previous owners, was received several times in the "Royal Room".
